Rigid shop vac filters are not very expensive but they are not cheap either. By taking proper care of your Rigid shop vac filter, you may be able to prolong the life of the filter and of the machine itself. There are two kinds of Ridgid shop vac filters which need to be cared for differently.
Ridgid shop vac dry filters should be cleaned by gently tapping against the inside wall on to a drum or other container. This operation should not be performed in enclosed spaces but rather be done in a well ventilated area, preferably outdoors. You can optionally run water through a dry filter after removing the loose debris and then let it sit in an open air atmosphere for a long time to let it completely dry; then it will be ready for re-use.
Ridgid shop vac wet filters can be cleaned by running water through them gently without using too much pressure. Once thoroughly cleaned, let them sit for air drying prior to re-use.
It is a good practice to inspect filters prior to re-installation and re-use. If there are tears, holes or other mechanical damage, then discard the filter and replace with a new one. When replacing, it is recommended that you use filters only manufactured by Ridgid.
